We’ve wanted to scream for four years now, and today we can finally say… RuneScape is coming to Steam!
As you read this, we pressed the button to publish our page on Steam, making it official. We can also confirm our release date: October 14, 2020 ( how many emotions! ).
RuneScape is a game like no other, a living, huge and immersive world that is accessible to everyone, whose heart beats with those of a crowd of incredible players. You are the citizens who give life to Guilenor.
For many, RuneScape is more than just a game or escapism. It is a place where friendships and relationships form (and even weddings!) And where you can be part of something bigger, like events at Lumbridge Crater. RuneScape is, in many ways, defined by the experiences we have with each other when we share our adventures, missions and achievements over the years. We believe that this is a world with much more to give, and with many years of history still ahead.
As we look to the future, we commit ourselves not only to improving the world of RuneScape, but also to ensuring that it remains very much alive and full of players. To do this, we are embarking on a new mission: taking RuneScape to new places, finding new adventurers elsewhere, and making RuneScape a more accessible MMORPG available on multiple platforms, so you can enjoy it anywhere.
This journey begins with our arrival on Steam. It brings RuneScape, one of the biggest MMORPGs in the world, to one of the main platforms in the gaming world. It connects us to a huge new community of PC players, who can be exposed to us for the first time. Together, we can welcome you and show you what RuneScape and the community have to offer.
And we don’t want to stop there: we will continue to work with our partners to bring RuneScape to all available platforms and make it even more accessible. You will see us create integrations with different account services, reach new platforms and make them available in different stores. It’s about offering new ways to access RuneScape and attracting new player communities.
We also know that trying to reach new audiences makes modernizing RuneScape, expanding our operations and improving accessibility more important than ever. I am asking the team to focus even more on these areas in order to better support the new players that we will be welcoming together over the next few years.
The launch of the mobile version is probably the next big step on this journey. Although we have several QA analysts, before launching RuneScape to the rest of the world, we want to make sure that we can bring the essence of RuneScape to all types of devices and that it looks great on smaller devices.
This means improving the initial game experience and readability, as well as optimizing our interface – from text, content, interactions and dialog sizes to improvements to the game engine and stability, to support the largest possible number of screen sizes. . While part of this work is focused on making the mobile version experience the best it can be in these areas, it will improve the experience on all platforms on which you choose to play.
This work will allow us to prepare the launch of the mobile version in a more attractive way for players, providing a better experience for everyone. Although we were ready to do that in 2020, with this change of plans, we will launch in 2021. We know that many of you are super excited for the full launch on Android and iOS, and we hope you understand that this wait will be worthwhile.
After that, our mission is to continue to welcome new adventurers and bring to the fore our vision for an MMO available on multiple platforms. We can’t wait to tell you more about it … at the right time.
On behalf of the entire RuneScape Team, thank you for joining us on this journey. We hope you are as excited about the future of RuneScape as we are, and we can’t wait for the release on Steam. In the meantime, you can check out our wonderful Steam page here if you want to add to your wishlist!
Tell your friends, and we will give these new adventurers a warm welcome on October 14th! See you in Guilenor!
